3 Hacks for Summer Snacks

Sparklers on a Stick for Adults

Prosecco and fruit in a popsicle? Brilliant! Fresh berries and the Italian white wine that sparkles like champagne are perfect partners for a fantastic “grown-up” popsicle. Just mix 1 cup mashed or pureed strawberries, blueberries or raspberries with 1½ cups Prosecco. Pour into popsicle molds, freeze 2 hours, insert popsicle sticks and freeze overnight. Makes about 6 popsicles. Double the mixture as needed – they’ll go fast!

Fuzzy Caterpillars for Kids

Grapes have long been called “nature’s candy” for a reason – they’re deliciously sweet. And just right for a creepy crawly summer treat. First, rinse a big bunch of red grapes and pat dry. Remove grapes from stems. Pour one (3 oz.) package cherry-flavored gelatin (or any flavor you like) into a large resealable bag. Add the grapes and shake until grapes are coated. Thread the grapes onto long plastic cocktail straws (safer for kids than pointed skewers) and freeze for a few hours. If desired, add “eyes” to your caterpillars with piped-on cream cheese and mini chocolate chips.

Colorful Yogurt Drops for Everyone

Yogurt fruit drops are easy to make and can be customized to a party theme in a rainbow of colors. To start, add 3 tablespoons pureed fruit to ½ cup plain whole milk Greek yogurt. Mango works for yellow/orange, strawberry for pink, blueberries for purple, raspberries for red, kiwi for light green… you get the picture. (Mini hack: you can buy flavored Greek whole yogurt for instant color.)

Pipe the yogurt/fruit mixture into drops on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Repeat as needed with different fruit/color combinations. Freeze for several hours. Remove from parchment, place in bags or containers and keep in freezer until serving time.

To serve, scoop a variety of colors into casual or dressed-up serving dishes. For kids, use clear plastic cups and bright plastic spoons. For adults, spoon the drops into margarita or cosmopolitan glasses and decorate the rims with a whole strawberry, orange curl or lime wedge. Add silver spoons, place on a silver tray and serve immediately.
