Trading Apple Hearts
Delight guests at a picnic, or pack a lunch surprise for the kids, with this fun idea for apple art. Depending on how many you need total, just get an equal number of bright green Granny Smith apples and a bright red variety, like Red Delicious. Use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut one heart out of a green apple and one heart out of a red apple. Then swap the hearts. Now the green apple is decorated with a bright red heart and the red apple boasts a bright green heart. Totally adorable and guaranteed to make anyone smile.
Apple Juice or Cocktail? You Decide.
Break out the juicer and make this absolutely delicious combo that will have everyone asking for the recipe. Juice 3 cups seedless watermelon cubes, 2 cups cantaloupe chunks, 1 chopped apple and a small piece of fresh ginger. Serve over ice. Turn into a fruity cocktail by stirring 4 ounces vodka into the blended juice. Serve in 4 martini glasses and garnish each with a cocktail pick holding a small cube of watermelon, a small chunk of cantaloupe and a green apple slice.
Sizzling Marinated Apple Slices
The next time you’re grilling pork chops, be sure to make these marinated apples for a delicious accompaniment. Mix ⅔ cup orange juice, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint, 1 teaspoon vanilla, ½ teaspoon ground ginger, and a dash of black pepper in a resealable bag. Core 3 Granny Smith apples and cut into ½” thick rings. Marinate the apple slices for 1½ hours and grill until tender.
Frosty Apple Pie for Dessert
Everyone loves apple pie and everyone loves a cool and creamy summer dessert, so why not combine them? Caramel Apple Pie Smoothies are just the thing! Blend 4 apples, seeded, cored and quartered, with 2 cups vanilla yogurt, 2 cups ice cubes, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla and a sprinkle of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour into 4 tall glasses, top with a rosette of whipped cream and drizzle with caramel sauce.
