When many people think of protein powder, they might imagine that the main consumer is a muscular guy wearing a cut-off tee and gulping down a strange thick liquid. And it doesn’t necessarily help that many protein powders are marketed with those images on their packages. You may be surprised to find that many different kinds of people are learning to utilize protein powder, from the senior population to busy parents on the go.
More and more, people find that the less time they have and the more active they are, they need great protein sources that are easy and convenient. Protein powders are just that. Let’s talk about some steps to use protein powders effectively and deliciously.
Step one: Pick a flavor that you know you will like (and don’t be too adventurous the first time!). Even though “carmel-choco-latte-colada” could be delicious; you’ll get more versatility out of vanilla, chocolate or plain.
Step two: Try it in a smoothie. Here’s a pretty fool-proof way to do it:
- 1 cup milk or dairy alternative
- ½ large banana
- 1 scoop protein powder of choice
- ½ cup of ice
Blend together in a blender or food processor until frothy. That’s it!
Step three: Add protein powder to everyday foods other than drinks:
- In your pancake batter
- Banana bread
- Homemade energy bars
- In an iced coffee drink
Step four: Experiment with different kinds of protein. Notice which ones give you the most satiety, flavor and help you feel your best day to day.
- Egg white
- Brown Rice
- Combinations of any of the above
