Hazelnuts and chocolate bake together in a homemade cream cheese crust – it’s a bite-sized answer to pecan pie!

  • Crust

    2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 3 oz. cream cheese, cut into small pieces
  • 6 Tbsp. cold butter, cut into small pieces
  • 2 - 4 Tbsp. cold water
  • Filling

    ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ½ cup hazelnuts, toasted and skins removed
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. corn syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp. salt

  1. In a medium sized bowl mix flour and salt. Using fingers, rub cream cheese into flour until evenly distributed. Cut cold butter into flour mix with a pastry blender until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stirring with a fork, add water one tablespoon at a time until dough just comes together. Flatten into a disk, wrap in plastic food wrap and refrigerate at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8” thick. Using a 3” circle cutter, cut 24 circles. Press dough circles into mini muffin tins. Reroll dough scraps if needed.
  3. Evenly divide chocolate chips and hazelnuts in each crust.
  4. In a bowl mix together egg, butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla and salt. Pour over hazelnuts and chocolate. Bake 20-22 minutes or until crust is golden brown around the edges. Cool in pan 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack.

To remove skins from hazelnuts toast them in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes. Immediately place in a clean dish towel. Roll hazelnuts in towel to gently remove skins.
